Shocking!

As long as I can remember I have shocked almost everything I touched from about November to May. A little spark when I turn on the light or kiss my husband! Or when I tried to work on instruments at work, yehh, I have overload a few circuits in my day! I never knew why, but recently I found out that it must be genetic because my mother does it too! I like to think of it as a sort of hereditary super power! It could come in quite handy if I ever needed to intentionally* needed to spark something.

*if you go into a dark room and pull apart two fleece blankets really fast, you will see a whole show of sparks, especially if you rub them together really well before hand.

Church "Shopping"

So since we moved we have been church "shopping". Sometimes it is trying because we have a perfectly good one back in Montreal and sometimes it is just plain amusing. So for the first installment of our Sunday Morning Adventures we bring you THE LIST...

Top Five Biblical Church Requirements*
1 Exegetical (Spelling??) teaching
2 Christ centered worship
3 A passion sharing the gospel
4 A giving, edifying, family like environment
5 Theologically intelligent (not just milk and honey)

Top Five Personal Church Requirements
1 Have some strange name for Adult Sunday School (ie Club 9:45, ABF, The Hour)
2 An elders wife who likes a little Baily's in her coffee
3 An older gentleman who breaths loudly and says random things
4 Someone to supply me with St. Viateur's bagels and chocolate truffles from Costco
5 Have people who like to go on walks in the woods, make monkey bread, and have lots of cute
children

So, I am I missing anything or including something I shouldn't. Please let me know. I am always open for suggestions.



*I don't have the references for these off the top of my head, although I could give estimate, but as I have time to verify the references I'll add them in.

What I do all day!

So this is what my "office" looks like. Quite a mess! I spend most of the day in the office/den in a maze of papers, dishes, calculators and more papers! Every morning before I start, I organize. It is pretty useless because when it is organized I can't find anything, but it makes me feel better! You can't really see the actual desk, but it is a really nice one we just bought at the Pottery Barn Outlet Store. Thanks Brad and Melissa for getting us totally hooked, know we want even more! :)

When we moved I just loaded all my files of papers and copies into these boxes. They fit so nice I just left them in there. This way when I am done, I can dump the whole thing in the recycling bin all Office Space-ish!

This is Fenway, the ever present heater that sits behind me. Notice the super ticked off face because I got up. Every day about 3pm she comes to pur and do that weird pawing thing cats do when they want something, until I let her up. Then she manages to turn around in circles for 5 minutes until she finds the right spot to sit, pushes her little paws out until she puts me in the right spot to sit, and purs contently until I get up to feed her at 5ish. I know, I live an exciting life!!
However, for all my science friends...I have this lovely red and white Christmas Cactus. It used to be a nice pink color. Then one, just one, white flower bloomed last spring (after the pink ones bloomed in November). And this year we have red and white flowers, no pink. Apparently, we didn't only mistake the gender of our cats! Because our little non-gendered plant is actually 2 little gendered plants! Who knew what was going on when we weren't looking! There was some Mendel-ian genetics happening right behind us. Plants were designed is such a cool way. I have only seen a red and white flower make a pink one, never the opposite. Go little recessive genes, go!

Christmas Presents

I love presents! I love giving them and I love getting them. I love mailing them and getting a call when they are received. I love the very idea of presents. In fact, of friend of mine once said that she found a present for me but it was too expensive, so she just printed an online picture of it and gave that to me as a present instead. It was fabulous! The gift itself is the thoughtfulness and friendship it took for her know what I would love to have someday.

This Christmas I am buying only 3 gifts.
For my nephews- art supplies from Michael's

and my parents - a digital frame (I took the photo from Walmart, but I am not sure if it is the same one, I got a really good deal on it if it is).

and even those are not expected. This is how I think Christmas should be. It should centered around the gift that was only given in physical form a 2000 years ago, because it was so expensive. It is the gift that is given everyday to us by faith and that is the grace and mercy of the our Lord and Savior. So here is to friends who give you pieces of paper that make you happier than the richest human on earth, and to God, because technically he is the richest man on earth!

I think I will still buy lots of presents throughout this year, but they are just presents because I miss my friends and family and getting little gifts for you makes me feel better and hopefully they will make you feel better too!

2 people, 2 cats, and a 17 pound turkey

What do you do with a 17 pound turkey and a family of 2? You make lots of leftovers. This is my fridge, full of every Tupperware I own except 2. My husband made a delicious turkey this year for US thanksgiving* and we decided to make all fixings. We figured we might as well go BIG. I tried to feed some of the leftovers to the cats but apparently my feline friends are quite particular about which feathered animals they will eat! So we made a crescent roll thanksgiving wreath, wild rice-turkey soup, and tomorrow green enchiladas using turkey instead of chicken. Trisha can verify these are quite tasty, we won't mention why I used turkey legs the time I made them for her! All I'll say is that they were a really great price for chicken!
